The ban will apply to products made entirely or partly of plastic, which are usually single-use products, or products that are only used for a short period of time before being discarded. These are plastic tableware-forks, knives, spoons, plates, straws, as well as earplugs, beverage stirrers, cup lids ,plastic sticks with balloons, food storage containers made of expanded polystyrene, cups and made of oxidatively degradable plastic product.

According to data from the European Commission, plastics account for more than 80% of marine pollution waste. The EU plans to phase out the production of non-recyclable plastics. From 2025, only bottle caps that are permanently fixed to the container can enter the market. The production of plastic bottles needs to use at least 25% of recycled materials and increase their recycling and reuse levels to 77%. The current recycling rate of PET bottles is only 43%.
